Rosary Dog

The Rosary Project · Apostle · 4 min read

I recently read Shoe Dog, the story of Nike. At the core of Nike's origin story is a passion for athletic excellence and the equipment required to maximize performance. The term "Shoe Dog" is industry slang for a veteran or fanatic in the footwear business who dedicates their life entirely to designing, making, buying, or selling shoes.

Definition

What is a Rosary Dog?

I was talking to one of our mission partners recently, and he casually threw out the term "Rosary Dog." I think he's onto something.

Rosary Dog (n.) Someone so obsessed with the Rosary they've made it their life's work: not just praying it, but making it, sharing it, and refusing to let go until the fire catches. A modern-day apostle of Our Lady, cut from the same cloth as St. Dominic, the OG Rosary Dog, whose own mother dreamed of a dog running the earth with a torch in its mouth, setting the world ablaze.

Not a hobbyist. Not a casual devotee. A Rosary Dog runs the earth with beads instead of a torch: relentless, patient, nipping at heels, trusting that the fire lit today might not show itself for years.

A Story

50 rosaries for 50 men

I want to highlight one such group of Rosary Dogs. In January 2022, a group of men down in Texas reached out for artillery support. They were putting on a weekend for young men, "focused particularly around fighting addiction to pornography." 50 men. We worked out a deal that wouldn't break the bank, and 50 rosaries and St. Joseph Terror of Demons prayer cards headed out the door the next day. I recorded a video about my own struggles and encouraged the men to pick up the Rosary. A week later, the team shared encouraging stories and inspiring photos from the weekend.

The Fruit

Now that time has passed

I received a note from one of the group leaders after reading our Rosary Project story. I just had to share this with you. My friend wrote:

Now that time has passed, you should know a few things:
1. They still have their rosaries
2. Many of them have joined a rosary group where they commit to praying the daily rosary in front of the Blessed Sacrament to support specific mission work and specific seminaries
3. At least 4 of them have discerned entering the seminary and are active seminarians now; one is waiting to go; 3 are engaged for marriage

PRAISE GOD!! This is the power of Mary's intercession, the Rosary, and well-formed men leading others to greatness.

Your Next Step

Sharing the Rosary

If you are interested in providing material support for an upcoming event in your community, please reach out to our team. Tell us about the event, your budget, and we'll get you set up with the perfect rosary kit for the occasion.

If you like the idea of sharing the Rosary in a concrete way, but don't know where to start, reach out and ask me a question. If you have seen the fruits first-hand of sharing the Rosary with others, I'd like to hear those stories, too. The more stories I get, the more inspiration I can share with others on the journey.

To Jesus through Mary,
Jonathan
