Mary has appeared to the saints time and time again, calling the faithful to pray the holy rosary. Each handcrafted rosary in this collection is made to help you take up that call, persevere in prayer, and follow Our Lady to Christ.
Mary has everything to do with the rosary because, at its core, the rosary is a meditation on the lives of both Jesus and Mary. As we pray the Joyful, Sorrowful, Glorious, and Luminous mysteries, we reflect on Mary’s role in salvation history as she walks alongside Christ.
When we recite the rosary, we call on Mary’s intercession, asking her to pray for us and guide us. She is the model of true discipleship—the first and most faithful follower of Christ who shows us how to live with courage, strength, and devotion.
What’s more, tradition tells us that Mary entrusted the rosary as we know it today to St. Dominic back in the 12th century and asked him to promote its use as a means of converting heretics and sinners. So when we pray the holy rosary, we are doing what Mary tells us to do to receive graces and to help others on the path to holiness.
What is the Hail Mary prayer?
The Hail Mary is a prayer of both praise and petition with roots in Scripture and Catholic tradition. It’s one of the main prayers used in the rosary and in Marian devotion. It is prayed like this:
Hail, Mary, full of grace,
the Lord is with thee.
Blessed art thou among women
and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God,
pray for us sinners,
now and at the hour of our death.
The design for the Miraculous Medal was given to St. Catherine Labouré by the Blessed Mother during a series of apparitions in Paris, France in 1830. Mary promised then that all who wore this medal with faith and devotion would receive great graces.
Over the years, many Catholics have shared stories of receiving graces and blessings while wearing the medal—solidifying both its name and legacy.
Many of the rosaries in our Hail Mary collection feature a custom-made Miraculous Medal, exclusively crafted for The Catholic Woodworker, that you won’t find anywhere else.
