Merry Christmas and Happy New Year from all of us at The Catholic Woodworker! I spent the last 2 weeks with family preparing for and celebrating the birth of our Lord. What a joyous time! I pray you and your family are well.
As you know, it is our mission to equip families for battle in the modern world. One of the ways I do this is by sharing resources that I have found helpful in my own spiritual development.
One of the things I like to do this time of year is reflect on the past year, and set some goals going forward. Sometimes I create specific goals, other times I pick a word or scripture verse as inspiration, and other times I pick a habit I want to form.
A few of my goals for 2023 that I wanted to share with you are:
- Daily Examination of Conscience - I've done this in the past, but it was easy for it to become scrupulous and critical. I want to revisit the examen and find a way to do this with compassion and curiosity.
- Prayer Space for Kids - prayer looks different for adults and children. I want to explore different ways to nurture an age-appropriate relationship with God beyond just the recitation of memorized prayer.
- Daily Rosary - I have been praying the rosary daily for 8+ years. It's too easy for this daily habit to be done on auto-pilot. I want to look at ways I can be intentional and fully present during this prayer time.
