There is a line in the Litany of the Blessed Virgin Mary that has stayed with us since we started designing this rosary. Queen of Angels. Two words that say something most Catholics know instinctively but rarely slow down to think about. Mary does not stand alone. She is always surrounded. An entire army of angels attends her, because she is their Queen. That image is what the Queen of Angels Rosary was built around.

📖 The Inspiration

Where This Rosary Comes From

The Litany and the Mystical City of God

The Queen of Angels Rosary was inspired by two things: the solemn Litany of the Blessed Virgin Mary and the book Mystical City of God, the famous mystical biography of Our Lady written by Venerable Mary of Ágreda in the seventeenth century. Venerable Mary of Ágreda received visions of Mary's entire life, including detailed accounts of the angels who accompanied her from the moment of her Immaculate Conception.

The Litany captures the same truth in a different form. Queen of Angels is not just a title of honor. It describes something real: Mary's authority over the angelic hosts, her constant companionship with them, and the protection they extend to those who pray to her. When you pray this rosary, you are asking for the intercession of a Queen who has an army at her side.

On the Mystical City of God Venerable Mary of Ágreda wrote that Mary was attended by angels from the first moment of her existence and that the angels continually surrounded and honored her throughout her earthly life. The green moonstone Our Father beads on this rosary carry that image into the prayer itself.

Why a rosary fits this devotion

The Rosary is already a deeply Marian prayer. Every decade moves through a mystery of Christ's life with Our Lady as the companion. The Queen of Angels Rosary layers an additional dimension onto that prayer: the image of Mary surrounded by her angelic court, extending that protection to everyone who prays in her name. The green moonstone beads are not decorative. They are a reminder, once per decade, of who is accompanying this prayer.

🪵 The Materials

Madre de Cacao and Green Moonstone

Madre de Cacao: a wood with character

Madre de Cacao is a tropical hardwood with a warm brown color and a grain that reads as rich and settled. The 8mm beads move through the fingers smoothly. They are not slick or light. They have the kind of density that communicates quality without announcing it.

"It feels and looks just as great as the first one."
Richard — verified customer, purchased his second Catholic Woodworker rosary

Madre de Cacao is not a dramatic wood. It is a reliable one. The kind of material that wears well over years of daily use and gets better, not worse, with handling.

Green Moonstone: the Our Father beads

The 10mm Green Moonstone Our Father beads are the element of this rosary that makes people stop. Moonstone has an internal glow, a soft luminosity that shifts as the bead moves in the light. The green variety reads somewhere between sage and seafoam, cool and quiet next to the warm brown of the Madre de Cacao.

Functionally, the jump in size from 8mm to 10mm means your fingers know exactly where you are in each decade without looking down. Devotionally, the moonstone beads carry the angelic imagery into every transition between decades. That pause at the Our Father bead is a small moment, but it is the right moment to be reminded of who is surrounding this prayer.

On Moonstone Green Moonstone is a feldspar mineral known for its adularescence — the soft glow that appears to shift beneath the surface as the stone moves in the light. No two stones are identical, which means every Queen of Angels Rosary is slightly different in how those Our Father beads catch the light.
Bead Type Material Size Character
Hail Mary Beads Madre de Cacao Wood 8mm Warm brown, dense grain, smooth in hand
Our Father Beads Green Moonstone 10mm Soft luminosity, shifts in light, cool green tone
🌹 Centerpiece & Crucifix

The Miraculous Medal and the 3-Way Pardon Crucifix

The Miraculous Medal centerpiece

The centerpiece on the Queen of Angels Rosary is the Miraculous Medal. Our Lady's appearance to St. Catherine Labouré in 1830 and her request for this medal is well known. What is easy to forget is that the Miraculous Medal is itself a Marian image of angelic accompaniment: Our Lady standing on a globe, rays of light streaming from her hands, the whole image framed by a prayer asking for graces through her intercession.

For a rosary built around the title Queen of Angels, the Miraculous Medal is the right centerpiece. It places Our Lady exactly as she appears in that role: interceding, radiant, surrounded by the light she reflects from her Son.

The 3-Way Pardon Crucifix in silver

The crucifix on the Queen of Angels Rosary is a detailed Silver 3-Way Pardon Crucifix. The 3-Way Pardon Crucifix carries three prayers on its surface: a prayer for pardon of sins against God, against neighbor, and against oneself. It is an act of mercy built into the physical object you hold at the start and close of every Rosary.

Silver against the warm brown of Madre de Cacao and the cool green of moonstone creates a clean contrast. The hardware does not compete with the beads. It frames them. That is how the Queen of Angels Rosary reads in the hand: cohesive, deliberate, every element placed for a reason.

Component Detail Devotional Significance
Centerpiece Miraculous Medal Our Lady as interceding Queen, surrounded by light
Crucifix Silver 3-Way Pardon Crucifix Three prayers for pardon at the start and close of each Rosary
Cord Desert Camo 95 Paracord Military-grade, built for daily carry and use
🛡 Construction

Built for Daily Prayer

The cord is Desert Camo 95 Paracord. Military-grade 95 paracord is the standard across all Catholic Woodworker full-length rosaries. It does not stretch, it does not fray, and it handles daily use across years without degrading. The desert camo colorway sits quietly between the silver hardware and the warm beads. It does not pull focus. It holds everything in place.

A rosary that lives in your pocket or your bag gets handled differently than one that sits in a drawer. The paracord is part of why the Queen of Angels Rosary holds up to the kind of handling that actually matters.

Sizing Note: The Queen of Angels Rosary measures approximately 17–18 inches in circumference and ships in a navy blue burlap pouch. At this size, it does not generally fit over an adult's head. Worth knowing if you are purchasing as a gift.
🎁 Who It's For

Who Prays With the Queen of Angels Rosary

For the reader who loves Our Lady

This rosary was designed for the Catholic who knows the Litany of the Blessed Virgin Mary by heart, or who is learning it. It is for the person who has read or wants to read the Mystical City of God. It is for anyone who wants a rosary where the devotional intention is built into the materials, not just the centerpiece.

"Beautiful and strong (like the Blessed Virgin)."
Richard — verified customer

That is the tone of this rosary. It is not delicate or decorative. It is beautiful in the way that things are beautiful when they are made correctly, with the right materials, for the right purpose.

A gift for someone who takes their faith seriously

The Queen of Angels Rosary makes a meaningful gift for a daughter, a wife, a mother, a confirmation candidate, or anyone who has a real Marian devotion and wants a rosary that reflects it. It arrives in the navy blue burlap pouch, ready to give.

It is also a rosary worth keeping for yourself. The people who end up with the Queen of Angels tend to reach for it specifically when they pray the Joyful Mysteries, where Our Lady's presence in the Annunciation, the Visitation, and the Nativity is most direct. The angelic imagery in the moonstone makes those mysteries feel different.

Occasion Why It Fits
Confirmation A rosary with real devotional depth for a young woman entering adult faith

Birthday A lasting devotional gift for anyone with a Marian devotion
Personal use For the daily Rosary prayed by someone who wants the beads to mean something

Final Thoughts

Every element of the Queen of Angels Rosary was placed deliberately. The Madre de Cacao beads for their warmth and density. The Green Moonstone for the angelic image they carry into every decade. The Miraculous Medal for the Queen who intercedes. The 3-Way Pardon Crucifix for the mercy that frames every prayer. The desert camo paracord because a rosary that is prayed daily needs to hold.

We made this rosary for the person who knows that the Blessed Mother is never alone, and who wants to pray under the protection of a Queen who has an army with her. That is the Queen of Angels Rosary.
